The value of data to any business changes over time. Mission-critical files can be termed useless after a defined period. Most IT organizations do not have the cycles or resources to move aging files from one tier to the next and over time data farms continue to grow exponentially. On average, the cost to manage data is 3X the acquisition cost. Consiliant takes care of this problem for you with a proven Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) methodology. Storage costs are reduced by keeping data on its appropriate medium. As files age out of the top tier system a long term archive can be created to meet corporate, government or compliance mandates. Some data may become extremely valuable again at a later date—for example, Year-end Financial Reports. To this end, data can be migrated back up to Tier 1 for year-end processing. Once the reports are completed the raw data can be sent back down the chain to near line or long term archive.
